We are not born mermaids. We become mermaids. Mermaids simply cannot give birth because they have no reproductive organs. In their human forms, however they can give birth. But the baby would be human and not mermaid.
Mermaids never age. The beauty of being a mermaid is that you will stay young forever. Although they do get older while human most eventually settle permanently into their fish forms.
Mermaid are not wicked. Sink ships? Drown sailors? That's a bunch of old wives' tales! Mermaids are actually very gently and friendly.
Mermaids are telepathic. While submerged it is difficult to speak. Mermaids are telepathic. They communicate with each other through thought, mostly in the form of images and occasionally words.
Mermaids live in groups. Many people view mermaids as solitary creature, but, not unlike humans, mermaids can get lonely too. They usually live together in large groups and are quite sociable.
Mermaids are exceptionally strong. It may not seem that way, but mermaids have the strength of 10 sharks. Mermaids are neither predator nor prey. They respect and are respected by all creatures of the sea.
Mermaids are vegetarians. So what do they eat? Mostly underwater vegetation.
